WESTFRIESLAND – In the weekend of June 22 and 23, 2024, the fifth edition of the IRONMAN Westfriesland sports event will take place. IRONMAN Westfriesland is a triathlon where participants swim, bike, and run a half or quarter triathlon. Swimming and running take place in Hoorn, and the cycling course runs through two or more West Frisian municipalities.
The entire weekend features three activities and competitions on the program. Besides two triathlon races on Sunday: IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN 5150, the Kids of Iron races (formerly IRONKIDS) for youth up to and including 15 years old will be held on Saturday.
Location
This year, the start is again at Julianapark. The swim start is back at Baatland (video 2022 Facebook) with a swim exit at WSV Hoorn. The transition area, identical to the 2023 edition, will take place on the soccer fields of Hvv Hollandia near the swim exit. The finish and registration tent is at the new Stadsstrand in Hoorn, providing ample space for a beautiful finish and reception of participants with expo space.

Participants
For both distances, IM 70.3 and 5150 (half and quarter triathlon), it has not been possible to register for weeks. All available participant spots were taken. “The event is completely sold out with 700 participants for the 5150 (Olympic) distance, and 2100 participants for the 70.3 half triathlon. In total, 2800 participants from 78 different countries,” race director Loek Schreurs of IRONMAN 70.3 Westfriesland told us earlier.

Course 5150
Audience
During the event, IRONMAN Westfriesland welcomes participants from the region, the Netherlands, and even beyond. They warmly invite you to encourage them with your neighbors or local residents. You can decorate the street and/or stand along the course to cheer on the participants. In the finish area at the Stadsstrand, there is space for the public to cheer at the finish. The transition zone is not accessible to the public.
